| Adjectives: How to make and use the correct shape |

Adjectives describe nouns. Examples: goed 'good', lang 'long', groot 'big', wit 'white'. Dutch adjectives have two basic shapes. The first shape is the stem, which is also the form listed in the dictionary. The second shape is the stem + e, which is the most frequent form found before the noun. Some spelling changes may occur:
The first form is used in the following cases: a. if the adjective is not in front of the noun it describes.
b. in front of an indefinite het-word
The second form is used in the following cases: a. in front of a plural noun
b. in front of a de-word
c. in front of a definite het-word
d. when used independently without a noun
