Like the regular perfect, the strong perfect is formed with the prefix ge-. But unlike the regular perfect, they take the ending -en and, often, they undergo a vowel change in the stem. Examples: ik breek > ik heb gebroken ik drink > ik heb gedronken ik vlieg > ik heb gevlogen ik geef > ik heb gegeven ik slaap > ik heb geslapen How the stem vowel changes is largely predictable. The 5 verbs above each belong to a group of verbs that all change their vowel in the same way. This means that verbs with the same vowel in the present tense will often behave the same in the perfect tense as well.
