|
Most Dutch personal pronouns are quite straightforward. However, some change shape when they carry the stress in the sentence. For instance. Do it for me then! stresses the me. The Dutch translation requires the stressed form of the pronoun: Doe het dan voor mij! | neutral form | stressed form | English equivalent | | 1st person singular | me | mij | me | | 2nd person sing. (informal) | je | jou | you (informal) | | 2nd person sing. (formal) | u | u | you (formal) | | 3rd person sing. (masculine) | hem ('m) | hem | him | | 3rd person sing. (feminine) | haar (d'r) | haar | her | | 3rd person sing. (neutral) | het (’t) | het | it | | 1st person plural | ons | ons | us | | 2nd person plural | jullie | jullie | you (pl. informal) | | 3rd person plural | ze | hen | them |
